Dare them to do anything about it.

I’m completely with you, but I can predict what they will TRY to do.

Expect state-level legislation tightening the reporting requirements for homeschooling to a point that many throw up their hands and capitulate to the government edicts. Many of the most leftist states will mandate homeschoolers teach specific leftist dogma in order to be compliant with the law. State examiners will be assigned to grill your children, out of earshot of parents, about what they are being taught and NOT being taught. “Remedial” educators will be assigned if they think your education is too “Christian” and “non-inclusive.”

If you refuse, you risk having your children taken from you. This will be included in the legislation they will craft.

If they mandate leftist indoctrination, you can teach it, teach that it IS indoctrination, and help them understand how it’s faulty. They need that anyway.

We don't get as much coverage, but homeschoolers have been VERY effective at moving the law in the other direction. It is like the gun rights supporters only with a much greater percentage of women. We can and do turn out hundreds to school board meetings, city councils, and the state legislators when there is a real threat.

Some states already have onerous reporting requirements and hoops to jump through (New York and Rhode Island come to mind). Some states have few regulations due to court decisions (e.g. Illinois). We raised three children in Illinois for 12 years, and we didn't have to so much as tell Illinois we were homeschooling. We just had to put in a certain number of school days, teach a set of reasonable subjects required, and teach in the English language. HSLDA swoops in whenever a bureaucrat or an expansively-minded school board goes outside of the boundaries of the state's law. Lots of info on their website hslda.org.
