My understanding is most insurance policies specifically Exclude damage or loss from civil unrest unless you add that to your policy. Larger stores may carry that extra policy, but I suspect many of the smaller businesses do not.

And yet they are scared to death to have any weapons available to protect themselves and their property. Oh well.

You are correct about the insurance. I used to turn it down every year on my rentals. In a town of 600 I didn’t worry about civil unrest. It’s not an expensive addition though.
