They are earning their pay. They would love nothing more than to restrain rioters. The problem is pols who tell them to let these things happen or be prosecuted. Unleash them, and they will earn their keep. Same story as with antifa demos from years past where liberal mayors told the cops to let the mayhem burn itself out. It’s the pols who have to get back to earning their pay. They don’t have do anything - just uncuff the cops and let them do their jobs. But they want to win higher office - one bad incident, one bad camera angle where a black rioter is badly-injured by a cop, and their political future is kaput.
