The Texas National Guard is being activated in response to protests of George Floyds death, one day after initially peaceful demonstrations escalated into widespread confrontations with police and led to eight injured officers and 137 arrests.
"Texans have every right to exercise their first amendment rights, but violence and looting will not be tolerated." Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement Saturday night.
In addition, HPD Police Chief Art Acevedo said his entire department is ready, with all officers alternating 12 hour shifts. Mayor Sylvester Turner activated the citys Office of Emergency Management, which ensures employees in various offices are prepared to respond. And Gov. Greg Abbott deployed 1,500 Department of Public Safety officers to four Texas cities, including Houston.
Acevedo said many of the provocateurs Friday night were white, unconnected with the demonstrations and possibly from out of town. The department is also monitoring a threat regarding white supremacists planning to come to Houston and create havoc on Saturday, according to the chief, though he didnt offer more details...
...The mobilization comes after initially peaceful demonstrations in downtown Houston boiled over Friday night, leading police to effectively shut off downtown as protesters obstructed highways, hurled objects at officers and destroyed police cars. At least one store Verizon on Main Street was reported looted. Its storefront was boarded up Saturday afternoon, along with a nearby CVS and restaurant...
...Police also maintained that they did not use tear gas Friday night, contrary to media reports. Officers did use pepper spray, Cannon said, on five occasions to try to keep people off freeways.
The total damage from the protests wasnt yet known, Acevedo said. A total of 16 cruisers were defaced or damaged, and the department is working on a report about damage to downtown businesses...

HPD Chief Acevedo: I saw people that didnt look like you and me last night, downtown in the middle of the night, tearing (expletive) up, Acevedo told the participants. And you know why? They dont want to talk about George Floyd and how he died when he didnt have to. They want to talk about how black and brown people tearing stuff up. They want to hijack the legitimacy of the grievances.
Such a well spoken individual. Is this what he really said?
“Texans have every right to exercise their first amendment rights, but violence and looting will not be tolerated.”
And we have every right to exercise our 2nd Amendment rights as well!
“...activated in response to protests of George Floyds death, ...”
No, not at all, these are not George Floyd protests. These are planned, coordinated attacks on the USA by anarchists - it is an attempted insurrection. The sooner our leaders realize it better it can handled.
Their grievances belong at Minneapolis City Hall. Nowhere else.

Austin, Texas In what sounds like something out of the Cold War Soviet Union playbook, Austin Police Chief, Art Acevedo urged the community to turn in neighbors and friends who are gun enthusiasts or who have extreme views, just days after Larry McQuilliams shot-up buildings in Austin.

He was using F-Bombs on Friday while screaming into a megaphone. He’s a radical Leftist from Austin now leading Houston Police.
Assevedo
The details: One non-sworn staffer is monitoring this "dangerous threat". And HPD are providing backup in the form of a thermos of coffee to keep him awake tonight. The rest of the cops are dealing with the real threats.

He’s a scumbag who is responsible for the murder of two people in a “drug raid gone wrong” where he and his staff lied and blamed the victims.
This Leftist a&&hole isn’t against police brutality or for justice.
And the HPD NEVER does anything about police assaulting prisoners in the holding cells when they are first brought in. An open secret that sets the city up for millions in lawsuits if one is ever publicly raised.
I just saw a guy on ABC news reporting from Los Angeles where a store has been looted. He said this activity was an outlier; but for the most part the protests have been peaceful and orderly.
This seems to be a developing news media narrative that the protests are largely peaceful and there’s just a few violent actions happening. They want us to believe that buildings on fire and buildings emptied out by looters are somehow not part of the mob actions in the streets.
This brown people thing drives me nuts.
“The department is also monitoring a threat regarding white supremacists planning to come to Houston and create havoc on Saturday, “
Hoax.
Reporters are claiming “there are good people on both sides”, eh???
This wouldn’t be the first bullsh!t from Art A@@clown
As Coronavirus Sparks Rumors, Houston Officials Dispel Social Media Myth Of A Citywide Lockdown
Officials say theyre investigating whoever is behind the misinformation campaign, which they say only creates anxiety and fear.

Houston officials announced an investigation Friday into messages posted on social media falsely claiming the city is going into a lockdown this weekend to stop the spread of the new coronavirus.
All of that is untrue, Mayor Sylvester Turner said at a press conference. I do believe it is a crime, and we should investigate it and find these perpetrators, these actors, and prosecute them.
While schools, bars and restaurant dining rooms have been shuttered statewide, including in Houston, there arent any instances of local or state officials issuing shelter-in-place orders. California this week issued such an order, which generally keeps people in their homes, though they are allowed to go out for essential trips, like getting groceries or going to the bank, according to Wired.
Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said it is likely that hostile foreign governments are behind the misinformation campaign.
They closed business and limited travel and forced everyone into their homes. LOCKDOWN.
Cut off their funding at the source via RICO. Take down Georgie Soros.
The police chief is a fool.
