A coronavirus testing project in San Francisco has provided yet another example of how COVID-19 is overwhelmingly affecting people of color.
Diane Havlir, the director of the HIV/AIDS division at the University of California, San Francisco, noticed early in the pandemic that young Latino men were arriving at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital with coronavirus symptoms more often than any other demographic. So she conducted a research project that involved testing 4,160 residents of San Francisco's Mission District and found that not a single white person tested positive, Stat News reports.
Havlir's project focused on a single, 16-square-block census tract in the Mission district, "one of the city's most densely populated and heavily Latinx neighborhoods," Stat News writes. A third of the tract's residents are white, while 58 percent are Hispanic, the U.S. Census estimates. But 95 percent of those who tested positive were Latinx, while no white person in the tract tested positive.
Just like testing and death rates are revealing across the country, "what really comes out of these data is that low-wage essential workers are victims of this disease," Havlir told Stat News. And with 53 percent of those who tested positive showing no symptoms of coronavirus, it's even more clear that allowing workers to stay home only if they feel sick may not be enough to stop the spread. My quick, shoot-from-the-hip response: Oh good, another reason to riot!!
where’s JJ and Sharptongue?
Well, that can’t be right. It shows black and white with almost the same numbers. How we gonna have inequality with numbers like that????
Reverse results of IQ data.
Funny how they never talk about areas that don’t fit the narrative.
In Sacramento County as of today:
Deaths % _______________ % of population
Caucasian 68.5 __________ 49.66
Black 11.1 ______________ 13.69
Hispanic 11.1 ___________ 28.1
Asian 9.3 ______________ 18.43
Um...hygiene?
very different story at StatNews source.
seems almost everyone tested was Latinx. the test with no positives was another test done earlier in a different area. you have to read it carefully:
28 May: Stat News: Testing blitz in San Francisco shows Covid-19 struck mostly low-wage workers
By Usha Lee McFarling
When we proposed testing everyone in a census district, it was met with enormous obstacles. Where? Everythings shut. Who? Theres no volunteers. Theres no protocols, theres no supplies, theres no labs. Theres no systems to get data back to people, (Diane Havlir, who runs the HIV/AIDS division at the University of California, San Francisco) recalled...
She persisted. And in a matter of weeks, a hastily created coalition of hundreds of university, hospital, and community volunteers called Unidos en Salud pulled together one of the largest coronavirus testing studies in the nation. In a four-day blitz at the end of April, they swabbed and drew blood from 4,160 adults and children, including more than half of the residents in the 16 square blocks that make up San Francisco Census Tract 229.01. In the heart of the Mission District, it is one of the citys most densely populated and heavily Latinx neighborhoods.
What really comes out of these data is that low-wage essential workers are victims of this disease, Havlir said. Many of those infected were working in food service, making deliveries, or cleaning offices despite shutdown orders. These people were out working the entire time, she said...
The first challenge for project volunteers was figuring out how to encourage a marginalized and minority population to agree to be tested...
The team brainstormed on how to reach people who had no internet access. They provided all information in Spanish. They leafletted. They went to bodegas and parks. They brought food, along with flyers about testing, to day laborers. They gave golden tickets to people who sheltered in the area but had no physical address so they wouldnt be turned away from test sites. They rode around in cars with megaphones and P.A. systems. We went old school, Rojas said...
Jacobo, an affordable housing advocate who lives in the census tract and served as the Latino press secretary for Bernie Sanders presidential run, likened the effort to political work...
Diane said this would require processing 4,000 samples in a very short period of time, said DeRisi, a professor of biochemistry and biophysics at UCSF and one of the leaders of the CZ Biohub, a research center funded by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, physician Priscilla Chan. I said, Bring it on....
In the days before the Mission project, the lab warmed up by processing in four days nearly 2,000 samples from another UCSF testing project in Bolinas, a semi-rural coastal community in Marin County, 13 miles northwest of San Francisco. The contrast between the studies ended up proving informative. In the largely white community, teams in tents tested 1,847 people who walked up or drove through in cars, bicycles, and a really sweet Vespa from the 1960s, said the projects leader, Bryan Greenhouse, a physician and malaria researcher at UCSF.
Not a single person in Bolinas tested positive for coronavirus. Its not too far away, but a world of difference, Greenhouse said...

What is the point of this? Immunity? Legal immigration vs. illegal. What is this ditz saying>?
So, what is the point of this article?
Here is her Twitter page, a horse-toothed Lefty who cites CAIR and BLM.

Similar results with Aids.
Most folks getting Aids were gay men.
It’s obviously a racist, sexist, homophobic health care system.
Obesity is a higher percentage rating in latino and black demos also.
I’d like to tell this marxist researcher that I’m a white low wage essential worker and not one of the 200 elderly people, both black and white, have tested positive for coronavirus at the subsidized housing development where I work.
I don’t know. That’s an interesting question.
I googled Africa Vitamin D, and saw several articles about wide spread deficiencies in Africa, especially North Africa.
But then I also saw an article indicating that there was a bad test that over diagnosed vitamin D deficiency.
So I don’t know.
I’m still surprised Africa didn’t get hit harder. Especially given as much Chinese influence and commerce occurring in Africa.
Yes, and it’s all whitey’s fault.
Sorry folks this is simple....white folks in that district are US born and raised. They wash their hands
No, it isn’t a racial conspiracy. The virtue signaling “researcher” of this study would never have asked what percentage of the Latino population she studied was illegal. Illegals often live cheek by jowl in housing due to it’s high expense in Kalifornia and because they remit so much money back to Mexico and other points South.
How many of the Latinxs tested were ILLEGAL ALIENS, how long were they in the U.S., where did they congregate and what were their general health conditions over the past few months?
Oh, forgot. How many people, whether related or not, lived in each home, apartment, etc. of those tested?
Did the whites who were tested live in the same conditions? If not, how did they live re residency?
Around me, years ago, there were anywhere from 10-16 Hispanic day laborers and semi-skilled/no-skilled laborers sharing ONE APARTMENT. They slept in shifts according to when they went to work. I don’t even want to imagine their living conditions.
Finally the apartment complexes were “condoed out” and this drove most of these men away. The renovations also drove out the hordes of rats, which gave me cats a lot to do at night.
Each morning they would leave a present for me in the driveway until the rats were eliminated or went into politics as Democrats.
