I’ve played in crappy bands all of my adult life. Sometimes we would attract real talent but musicians are fickle and flighty and we would usually end up with adequate players carrying a ton of personal baggage.
We hired this one bassist - he seemed OK in rehearsals but onstage I caught him sucking on a straw. At a break I asked him what he was doing. He had a sandwich bag filled with bourbon that he kept in his shirt pocket and drank using the straw. When I spoke with him he was already 3 sheets.
I fired him. Don’t ask about the guy we got to replace him!
