counting backward from 100 by 7...I’ve done that at night when I can’t go to sleep until it dawned on me my mind needs to rest not count!!! It is fun tho’.
= = =

Try this lying in bed at night:

What is the inverse of 10, i.e., 1/10?

Then the same for 11
then 12
then 13
...

Go the other way:
1/9
1/8
1/7
...

get a fraction, as a decimal, which gives a percent.

Get them close, get a pattern, and you will be ready when the lying news (oops) gives a statistic.

You can say, Hey, that’s about xxx percent, or 1/nth of whatever.

Like 1/5 = 20 percent
1/6 =~ 17%
1/7 =~ 14%
1/8 =~ 12%
1/9 =~ 11%
1/10 = 10% An easy one

Then they can be reversed
1/11 9%
1/12 8%
1/14 7%
1/17 6%
1/20 5%

If they are in between, estimate accordingly.

Numbers are our friend(s), there are lots of them.

And ... they even have colors, which may vary for the individual.

No No No - why do you think I stick with counting back by 7 from 100? Anything beyond that is BEYOND my ability. I was born with MATH ANXIETY! Do you think that was fun getting through Math Regents exams in the New York State school system? Scarred me for life... I did work for 60+ years as a full charge bookkeeper and loved it and pleasantly learned that I did not need any of what they tried to teach me in school. Debits were debits and Credits were credits and keep track of which was which and apply them accurately and you’re home free. Income and Outgo - pretty simple. Who needed fancy-schmancy book larnin’ for that?

I had an 8th grade Math teacher who threw up her hands after I got to her class as she’d had two of my sisters and one brother in her class and said we were all the same!!! I always blamed it on our parents who talked at the “supper” table about “hating” arithmetic....

I wasn’t going to make that mistake with our daughter and what do you know? She hated it too!! Without me ever opening my mouth about it! Her dad never found numbers of any kind to be a chore or problem - sailed through all math courses in high school and college.. We had a flight school in Southern CA for years and he wanted to teach me how to fly and I knew enough to know that I wouldn’t be able to plot a training flight etc., so I politely (are you nuts?) declined. Did take the 10 hour pinch hitting course from him in case something happened to him at the controls and I’d have to land a plane but I told him I’d rather be shot down. I wasn’t kidding.
