Police said that although officers had a no-knock warrant, they still knocked several times and announced themselves.

Smells like BS ... why would they go to the trouble of getting a no-knock warrant, and then knock?

Well, even above that, criminals have been known to impersonate the police to get the upper hand on their victims.   Police Officers must only function with badges and ID clearly presented for citizens to verify.   Skullduggery must not be a tool of the police officials in a free society.
