“The older man, an Army vet, was snatched from his apartment and dumped in the nursing home without any notification of his relatives” ...... Who did the snatching? Under what authority? If this man dies from brain injury, will his death be listed as chinese virus?
Indeed, why was he snatched in the first place? My personal GUESS is that he was receiving VA/Medicaid benefits and had some type of semi-official personal visitor who had the authority to recommend he be placed in a nursing home “for his own good.” All of that says it’s far better to finance one’s own care and have a designated trustee, supervised by one’s own attorney, to watch out for situations like this. In this case he probably should have had a durable power of attorney with a designated representative who had to consent to any such move.
