I’ve been wondering about this for a while. Isn’t mandatory universal background checks on all gun sales pretty much registration? Especially if you combine it with mandatory reporting of lost or stolen guns? Unless the serial number isn’t recorded on background checks on sales between private individuals?

Right, I get that it is the ultimate goal. Is the serial number recorded in the states that have universal back ground check laws for sales between private individuals? Are there any states that have universal background checks that only check the person, not the gun?

We will be starting that July 1 here in Virginia, the same paperwork will be filled out as a new gun.

Yup. In Virginia too. I actually took care of getting my new gun essentials over the last year or so after the dem take over election. As far as I can see the universal background check plus mandatory reporting for lost or stolen firearms is pretty much registration for any new gun purchased from a ffl holder after the beginning of July.

They did. However that, I think, came under the NFA in some manner. Making a, what was a piece of metal, magically into a gun might be much more difficult. There’s a bit more history (mostly legal) to abolish than there was for bump stocks. I’m not saying it can’t be done but it’s not going to be easy. Also consider that you can make any number of FAs for your own use without any ‘mother may I’ from any govt agency. The problem is where do you set the %age? It’s no longer expensive to buy the tooling to make from 0%. So will they also control those? Programs to make receivers aren’t uncommon so that horse has already left the barn. What they hope to control is simply out of reach!
