SAF: ‘IF YOU’RE NOT ISSUING LICENSES, DON’T ARREST PEOPLE FOR CARRYING’
SAF ^ | May, 2020 | SAF

Posted on 05/24/2020 7:08:25 AM PDT by marktwain

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation today said that if state agencies and officials around the country that are responsible for issuing concealed carry licenses or permits are not taking new applications because of the COVID-19 outbreak, they should not arrest people for carrying without a license/permit.

“We’ve received reports that some agencies are using the coronavirus outbreak as an excuse for suspending the concealed carry application process,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “The constitution wasn’t put on hold because of the coronavirus.”

SAF has been involved in several legal actions across the country stemming from the coronavirus pandemic. Two of those cases, which have been favorably resolved, involved gun permit applications.

“The right to bear arms,” Gottlieb observed, “translates to the right to carry, and like other rights protected by the Constitution, that right is not limited to the confines of one’s home. Ever since the SAF victory in McDonald v. City of Chicago ten years ago, the Second Amendment has been incorporated to the states via the 14th Amendment. A lot of people apparently have forgotten that, but we haven’t. You cannot suspend a constitutionally guaranteed fundamental right, especially in times of emergency.

“The past few months have seen a significant increase in the number of new gun owners,” he noted. “Many, if not most, of those new owners bought firearms for personal protection, and not just in the home. Where state law requires a license or permit to carry concealed in public, issuing agencies cannot be allowed to arbitrarily stop that process, using the coronavirus outbreak as the reason.

“If a sheriff’s or police department is not accepting carry license applications,” Gottlieb said, “they should not arrest someone for carrying without a license.”

The dems know what they’re doing. The plan is to take guns from non-violent, honest citizens and leave them in the hands of violent criminals.

I’m a non-violent, honest person until you try and take my guns away. I wouldn’t want to be the person or persons sent to do it, we’re both going to have a bad day!

In my County it takes 90 - 120 days to get a CCW permit after you file the paperwork. I have discussed this issue with the Sheriff and he is trying to reduce the time. His problem is that the manpower assigned to processing permits is budgeted by the board of supervisors and they significantly under fund that department. Next stop is to sue the board for delaying rights. No chance of getting constitutional carry here. The Dems control the legislature in spades and a ballot initiative is difficult(and expensive) to achieve.

Buried deep in the Dred Scott Decision of the SCOTUS was this statement often ignored today.

What the SCOTUS thought about gun control in the pre Civil War era.
“It would give to persons of the negro race, who were recognised as citizens in any one State of the Union,

the right to enter every other State whenever they pleased, singly or in companies, without pass or passport,

and without obstruction, to sojourn there as long as they pleased, to go where they pleased at every hour of the day or night without molestation, unless they committed some violation of law for which a white man would be punished;

and it would give them the full liberty of speech in public and in private upon all subjects upon which its own citizens might speak; to hold public meetings upon political affairs,

and to KEEP AND CARRY ARMS wherever they went.”

Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping!

To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I don't add you to the list...

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” Barack Hussein Obama, 7/2/2008
They don’t call it a Civil Defense force, that would imply we need (or perhaps that we deserve) defense. The official name is National Civilian Community Corps.

I think of it as the NatCCC, or more simply, as the NatCs...

I was sort of surprised a couple of weeks ago. I got an email from the Illinois State Police telling me that my renewal applications for my F.O.I.D. card was being postponed for one year due to the plaque. Just make a copy of the email if you want and you're good to go.

Same thing for the CC permit.

Both have to be for a renewal. They didn't mention the application process but a neighbor told me that's the reason for the extension. The reduced staff is working on new applications in order to comply with the time requirement.

Surprising for Illinois.

Well the dems sure as he11 goofed up if that was what they were aiming at.

I've always been pretty one way about 2A matters but since I've seen the way the democrats in elected positions around the country have acted the past couple of months, there is not a power on this earth that would compel me to give up my gun-none.

My wife got her license to carry here in Pennsylvania in less than a week and it usually takes 10 to 14 days. The sheriff in our county has made time available to get a new or renewal permit. They don’t currently have court duties so apparently get them processed sooner. The county to the south of us not so much. You can complete the paperwork and send it in but they aren’t taking photos so you can actually get you permit.

Weeks ago our sheriff sent a letter to everybody with a concealed firearms license extending them and providing information. Pretty good guy.
