JAKARTA (Reuters) - Hundreds of children in Indonesia are believed to have died from COVID-19, giving the Southeast Asian country one of the world’s highest rates of child deaths from the novel coronavirus that experts around the world say poses little danger to the young.

...

Paediatricians and health officials in the world’s fourth most populous country said the high number of child deaths from a disease that mostly kills the elderly was due to underlying factors, in particular malnutrition, anaemia and inadequate child health facilities.
...

A total of 715 people under 18 had contracted the coronavirus, while 28 had died, according to a health ministry document dated May 22 and reviewed by Reuters.

It also recorded more than 380 deaths among 7,152 children classified as “patients under monitoring”, meaning people with severe coronavirus symptoms for which there is no other explanation but whose tests have not confirmed the infection.

It's going to get to a point where you can't trust anyone's numbers. We're almost there now. I feel WOM's data is still the most accurate, FWIW.

We plan to wear our masks and exercise other preventative measures for the time being. I managed to get a haircut last week. Both the barber and I had our masks on.

He had to remove one ear strap at a time to cut underneath. Lol. Then he would place it back...never in my wildest dreams did I foresee this.

I'm picking up a new piece of equipment from the local equipment dealer tomorrow. Everyone has their procedures, so it will be another learning experience.

I received a huge discount for paying with cash...but now I'm wondering if maybe I should have used the manufacture's loan program instead. The process of making the deal gave me an uneasy feeling that having cash available is going to become real important soon.

We have a big weekend planned, with family coming from out of state whom we haven't seen since this began. Got to chat with my mom on face time today. She's still sad, as are we, that we're not allowed to visit. Staff hinted that next month we will be allowed in to visit by appointment.

Getting weirder for sure...

That's terrible. The only good thing about this virus was that it spared the young...

Chris Martenson just posted a vid on youtube about the CV case spikes in some states:

Covid-19 On The Rise In 20+ States

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7mshxhMHBY

Overall, and number wise, I'm not seeing a significant jump in cases according to WOM data, as you can see in the chart I previously posted.

Completely agree.

Just got finished making a beard mask for a coworker of hubby’s. He had been wearing a one of the wrap scarf thingies. This one can have a coffee filter or something else cut and put in a pocket. Coworker is AA and does NOT think it’s a hoax. He’s lost several family members so far.

Hope she’s okay. My mom told us today that they had tested her for CV - it came back negative.

In Texas, hospitalizations have mostly been increasing since June 1. On Thursday, the state reported 2,008 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, slightly down from the record high of 2,153 reported on Wednesday.

On Thursday, state health officials reported 81,583 positive cases, an increase of 1,826 from the prior day. That was down from the single-day state record of more than 2,500 new cases set on Wednesday. Officials reported 35 new deaths on Thursday, bringing the state’s total to 1,920.

Harris County has the most cases in the state, with 15,552.

Texas has had one of the fastest re-openings of its economy and additional restrictions were set to be lifted on Friday.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.

Not sure where Chris is getting his data. California is seeing a small increase in new cases, but certainly not a “spike”, and we are not seeing any corresponding increase in hospitalizations. We are opening up pretty rapidly considering Newsom was so against it before. I had my first indoor meal today at a country club before a round of golf. The place was pretty empty, with maybe 15 people in a room with probably 200 capacity. Tomorrow, indoor movie theaters can open at 25% capacity, but all of the big chains are saying they are not ready yet. No surprise there. I know I won’t be going to a theater for quite a while. Gyms, bowling alleys and other businesses are also opening. I’ve even seen a couple NEW restaurants opening. Talk about optimism. Hopefully people will be responsible at the individual level, as I do think that will make a lot of difference.

I agree... the “offering hope for others” is almost laughable - how many people are even candidates for something like that?
