Divvy up who ever wants to leave between Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Mainland US, and Canada. I'm not a big immigration buff but if it will hurt the Chicoms I'm willing to take a chance.
In fact send an extra dose to Hawaii they have to be more conservative than the people living there now.
Two points, please.
1. Yes, it is often tiresome to see incorrect - or incomplete - information posted here on Free Republic. But to insult the poster is to shut down the conversation. Dont you see that? We should all feel free to express our points of view. And if that view is wrong, someone usually comes along to offer a correction.
Awhile back there was a discussion of - of all things - lasers here on Free Republic. I know a lot about lasers. Ive worked with them for decades. And someone posted some crazy wrong things about laser behavior. I did not insult him. After all, what good would that have done? Instead, I offered a gentle correction. I firmly feel thats the way to go.
2. As to supporting the Chinese Communists, I certainly understand your position there. I hate those guys. And even more so since they carelessly unleashed the Wuhan virus on the world. They should be made to pay dearly for that.
But Hong Kong is a Chinese city. It just is. To defend UK sovereignty over any part of it is a dead end, in my opinion.
yes... spotted the flaw in that “cunning plan” almost immediately.
I do think we are heading for a hot war. It’s also looking more likely they spread covid as a first strike.
The UN? They’ll probably send a congratulatory note to Hong Kong for “throwing off a last vestige of colonialism.”
This was probably inevitable, the Communist Party cannot tolerate dissent or opposition to its rule. I suspect that General Secretary Xi and the Party leadership are afraid of what happens if Hong Kong’s resistance is left unchecked. I also suspect that they hope by using legislation instead of a direct crackdown by the PLA will mute the international consequences.
The bottom line however, is that the Party will abrogate or ignore international agreements they feel undermine the Party’s hold on power.
In Hong Kong, this cements Hong Kong’s separate identity from the rest of China. They lack the ability to break free for now, but hate for the party and distrust of mainland Chinese will only grow.
Perfect!
Who knows? Maybe they decided they would stop eating bats, and now eat geese. 😁😆🤪
Never trust communists.. ever.
It really is just a matter of time for that to happen isn’t it?
I remember thinking this back in 97: why not offer dual citizenship to those who wished to remail loyal to the Crown? I’ve been to Hong Kong and it is a wonderful of a fusion of history, modernity and culture. I hope we aren’t seeing the end ‘with a whimper’.
Basically, China cannot be trusted to keep their word on anything, or to abide by the terms of any agreement.
The ccp has to go.
How would you stop the Chinese from planting spies among those?
_____________
...... good question.
Can anyone explain how old time miserable JEWISH Senators like:
continue to make $$$$$$$ millions working for China?
This country has been corrupted by the same crowd for decades. (Those who shall not ne named...)
We are very limited in what we can do. Sanctions, tariffs, etc. China will not care what we do.
Hong Kong was lost in 1997. Most knew that.
This is a dress rehearsal for Taiwan. On that issue, the US needs to be firm and prepared to use military force.

Joe Lieberman formally registers as lobbyist for Chinese telecom giant ZTE
January 2, 2019
"Former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) has officially filed as a lobbyist for Chinese telecom company ZTE, registration forms released Wednesday confirmed.
ZTE has long been under fire from U.S. officials and members of Congress who say the company could endanger national security by providing espionage opportunities for the Chinese government.
Though the well-connected Lieberman was thought to be hired to help take pressure off of the embattled ZTE, his firm Kasowitz Benson Torres (KBT) ------- tells a different story."
There are an estimated 300,000 HK residents who hold dual citizenship in Canada. There are likely more with dual citizenship in other western countries. This was intentional, as most HK business people could see this coming. That is why Vancouver has thousands of empty houses and condos, in case they need to make the move permanent. Many more HK residents have family in other countries and may be able to emigrate through family reunification programs. I would find a section of the Canadian coastline and let them all settle there to build a new HK. Very resourceful people.
They should pull an Ellis Wyatt as they leave the land.
One can dream.
The UK doesn’t need a special right to criticize the ChiComs over what they’re doing to HK.
The UK just needs some b@lls.
“The opposition in Hong Kong have long colluded with external forces to carry out acts of secession, subversion, infiltration and destruction....”
Sounds like Hitler’s excuse for invading his neighbors, and Turkey’s excuse for slaughtering Armenians.
