They are asking the public to give them a little break...
The CDC tells us that the change comes after a preliminary study from March suggested that the novel coronavirus can remain in the air for up to three hours, and live on surfaces such as plastic and stainless steel for up to three days, prompting many to take to wiping down packages and other items.
However, at the time, the study was yet not peer-reviewed, and, did not determine if people could be infected from touching certain surfaces analyzed.

even before this “novel” virus, germ presence does not necessarily equal contagion....
I’m guessing that the real death rate, once a good estimate of undiagnosed cases is made, will be in the neighborhood of around 0.3% or so. Not good, but still much lower than our betters keep telling us.
