The USA is the only advanced first world nation that hasn’t provided broadband access to all of its citizens. To those of us in rural areas we’ve been given the finger. It makes ME SICK.
Lots of places in Australia where access to the Internet is through the phone system, just as it is in the rural areas of the United States. (About 1/3 the cost in Australia, though).
...provided broadband access to all of its citizens.,,

It’s creeping out here. Rural business owners need to pressure their co-ops and comm startups to apply for the grants that are available. We got FIOS here about 2 years ago and our property was hooked up 14 months ago.
Right now, in our new place, it’s Hughes 6 Gen (w/ an upgrade due in 6 months). Affordable and we hope something we can live with. No alternative except Frontier and we’ve been there, done that.
Our new place, while rural, is in a subdivision (3-5 acre plots), so we are intending to lobby and hope that neighbors mean that it will be feasible for anyone taking the risk.
The $ is there and the Fed Gov is behind it. It just takes a push from the consumer on the providers. You have to work with them. It’s a huge investment.
