baby stepping us right into a NWO. I’m fighting the way I know how and I highly recommend everyone else fight like hell too. If they’re mandating masks, are vaccines next?? Only a FOOL would get a vaccine. We need to fight on behalf of the children of the world over this.

The Chicom flu hobbyists have all convinced themselves they are “high risk” and have whipped themselves into a trance like state. No doubt they get a literal high off a good virtue signalling mask up and toilet paper shopping spree. I wonder if they mask up to pump gas at Costco, too?

Tell that nonsense to all the nursing home inhabitants and all the medical people who have caught it and died.

Test out your theory, go ride on some subways, buses or go to lots of stores and rub shoulders with as many people as possible. Shake lots of hands, get as close to others as possible.

Your demise will not be A loss for the world. One less fool.

I have seen nothing contributed by you other than bile, vitriol and anger in this and pretty much every thread I have seen your comments on. Perhaps a gentle reminder of the site rules is in order? Well, at least the “No ad hominem or personal insults...

Friend of my wife’s, just busted her elbow to pieces and had to have surgery with multiple pins. She was jogging outside with her mask on and got dizzy. Who’d a thought!

I've seen that too, people on the bike trails near where I live jogging and biking with masks on. I know there are masks made specifically for those with allergies to wear when walking and jogging, I doubt all these people are wearing those kinds of masks.

I don't wear one while outside, driving, walking, biking or anywhere else that's not necessary. If a store requires one for entry, I'll put one on. If I don't want to go into a store that requires one, I won't go in. It's pretty simple in my book.

BTW our dumbass Governor (Prickster here in Hellinois) has said he requires one whenever people are outside. IMO that's beyond stupid and straight into tyranny. I refuse to comply. The same way I'll refuse to comply with Prickster's brownshirt wearing "contact tracers" that he's unleashing across the state.

You have the marvelous right not to shop there if you don't like their policies.

Yeah, right after they hit you with a $60 membership fee.

If it was free, you'd have a point.

It’s truly unfortunate that the overall quality of discourse on the site is so poor. Regrettably, many if not most, of the interesting and thought provoking posters have drifted off over the last five years or so, leaving mostly conspiracy kooks, knee jerk responders, unicorn chasers and obnoxious boys at the manure plant. And of course those of us who respond.

If policing commentary On the site that you find Too raw, too impolite or otherwise unacceptable you will certainly be a very busy man. Or do you just call to account people with opinions that you do not agree with?

Do you also oppose Costco’s policy that customers must wear shoes and a shirt while in their stores?

I wonder what percentage of people who defend the decision of a private business are full on board for smoking bans. “Shop elsewhere” could easily be “eat elsewhere”. Just looking for ideological consistency.

"...Neither do pants, really, but I wear them anyway every day. I find it makes other people feel more comfortable..."

Love the post, SquarePants.

I think masks are BS in most applications we are being asked to wear them in. But while this is going on, I wear them when I enter somewhere to put them at ease, not for my protection or theirs.

For example, I have a bike trail near my house, and I have been walking every day. Someone put up signs along the trail with guidelines for social distancing and mask wearing...which I feel is pretty stupid, especially with a 10 knot wind or more blowing. I don't wear a mask as a rule, but I see people that do, and some of them make a point of putting it on as they bike or walk by, which seems completely stupid to me when the wind is blowing hard enough that it makes hearing a podcast through sound cancelling earbuds difficult. I see people leave the trail and walk to the side of the trail to get more distance.

It is all this behavior that makes me wonder about people. It seems like zero common sense. I almost get to the point I don't want to go out in public at all, not because I don't want to wear a mask which is not really an enormous imposition, but because I find it so distressing to see the human behavior associated with it.

And I also feel constant tension at complying with something I believe is being fundamentally misjudged by well meaning people, and deliberately exaggerated by others who I believe have specific reasons for doing so.

I believe that this kind of thing, where people are isolated in their houses 24x7, listening intently to the kind of hysterical pap coming from the media, can push some people over the edge to where they become mentally unstable. I live in a blue state, and there seem to be a lot of people I would just rather not push over the edge. Being among Leftists, I just assume they are living close to the edge of mental instability anyway.

I work in Health Care, and the new normal due to all this hysteria is going to be 24x7 masks in the facilities I have no doubt. I already get a yearly vaccine, which I elect to do simply because I think that is the right thing to do in a hospital environment. If I didn't want to do that, I would wear a mask from October to March (or whatever it was) or I would find other work. Now, I suspect it will be masks all the time.

The shoes and shirt policy was in place at the time I purchased my membership.

Point taken.

Remember the first ‘smoking zones’ on aircraft were by moving the sign up and down the aisle as needed.
Restaurants were advised to set aside a section and for a long while the bar was smoking then restrictions etc had to be put in place, eventually banning smoking in the building and moving on to open aired stadiums.

I no longer smoke but when I did it was ‘heavy’ and even I agreed with maybe a portion being roped off(For all the good it did/didn’t do) wasn’t a completely bad idea..

Point being that a seemingly ‘nice gesture’ from the govt went from guidelines to how to do it to mass bannings.

Guess they would ban it if not for all the tax revenue it brings in.

The ‘smoking’ bit is a perfect example of how a little government gesture can turn into a tyrannical situation in relatively little time.

They can do that with anything and ‘we’ will have to comply eventually.

MY ‘gripe’ is that the regs don’t even allow one to try a bar catering to smokers etc.

I remember many years ago a lot of bar owners were complaining about all the restrictions yet two bars in town were full of drunks and rowdies and little was done about it.

The Chief explained that yes, they could shut them down but it did provide a place where the ‘criminal element’ could go and ‘we(the Police)’ know where to pick them up.

Then he hit them with the reality:

Besides, if I shut them down, Bob-your going to get a couple as will you Sam and you Mike etc etc and do you really want that trash sitting at your bar.

Good point and well taken....in todays world, the owners would keep griping about the ‘special privileges’ and when the ‘dumps’ were shut down they would be suing the city because they couldn’t get rid of the riff raff.

I am not sure of a parallel between smoking and mask wearing, but if I were looking for ideological consistency, I would look not to the rights of an individual looking to smoke in a restaurant, but to the right of the owner of an establishment to not have smoking in a restaurant.

Obviously, I do not advocate denying someone entry based on their God-given skin color, sex, culture, etc. because people don’t have control over those things. Generally.

But people do have a choice to smoke or not. So to me, the right of an owner to deny someone the right to smoke in their establishment trumps the right of an individual to smoke there.

Mask wearing I think is in a different category of things.

Just my opinion.
