Last week we noted that hiking is now considered tainted by historical racism. Hiking. On mountain trails. Well move over you racist hikers. Make room for racist . . . (checks notes) joggers! Because jogging is racist, too.
Jogging Has Always Excluded Black People, Natalia Mehlman Petrzela tells us in the New York Times:
Running has been a pastime marketed primarily to white people ever since the jogging craze was born in the lily-white Oregon track and field world of the late 1960s. Black people have not only been excluded from the sport one survey by Running USA found under 10 percent of frequent runners identify as African-American theyve also been relentlessly depicted as a threat to legitimate, white joggers.
The most apparently egalitarian exercise of all, running, is anything but especially when it comes to race. . .
Marketing and media didnt help: From the cover of People magazine to ads for Nike . . . the joggers were almost uniformly depicted as white. . .
American distance running is still stubbornly white. The United States is only for the first time sending black female marathoners to the Olympics in 2021, while the competitive amateur and recreational levels of the sport remain overwhelmingly white.

In the great old (black & white) movie "Knute Rockne, All-American" there was a scene in which one of the priests who was a Notre Dame administrator was discussing how football was too rough a game, and should be replaced with hockey. Rockne replied that he wouldn't want to put a stick in the hands of an Irishman!
Yea well, America is..... ya know, white.
That’s awesome..! When folks can laugh at themselves.. It’s a much better atmosphere...
Look up a guy named Ted Corbitt. Back at the start of the running boom
One of the great ultrA runners and promoters of running. Black as the

I think it all depends on the area. Some trails here in TN, especially in the Smokey's there can be quite a bit of diversity. Not so much on longer trails or smaller parks though. Personally, I could care less; but I do find many of the 'trail runners' to be an annoying lot.
Easy. Hiking is more racist by far! There is much more gear you need to buy. And since black people have less money, that makes it racist. Also, black folk are more likely to live farther away from hiking places. The distance is like anti social distancing.
Makes a solid case for jogging racism. He was killed because he was racially appropriating jogging? Did the murderers steal his air Jordan jogging hi tops??
LOL! But most of the people that shop REI are there for the look, not actually doing anything with it. Just did a quick hike to Charlie's Bunion this weekend (8mile round-trip), and people were gasping for air less than a mile into it.
