Kemp deploys National Guard to help nursing homes battle virus
March 31, 2020
The state will deploy more than 100 Georgia National Guardsmen to assisted-living facilities and nursing homes with coronavirus cases to help limit exposure to the disease among the most vulnerable residents.
Gov. Brian Kemp announced the deployment Tuesday as the states long-term care system is starting to feel strains from the pandemic. More than 30 nursing homes and assisted-living facilities have residents who tested positive, according to an estimate Tuesday by the Georgia Health Care Association, the states largest long-term care trade association.
