Hmmm... anyone have insights as to why he backed down?
LAWSUITS....If someone else obtained that info and used it to hurt the customer.....
Restaurants, especially chains and well known restaurant owners in Seattle RAISED HELL. Plus, fortunately, Inslee is weak and usually caves.
Hmmm... anyone have insights as to why he backed down?

I suspect that somebody clued the dumb ass in that if he did that for restaurants, hed have to do the same thing for state government offices at all levels, movie theaters, barbers, lawyers offices and every other business public or private (e.g., non-profits feeding the homeless and poor) or guarantee that hed be sued and lose.
In a rare moment of clarity the ACLU jumped all over him on this.

restaurant association pending lawsuit and poll numbers that made him worse than Trump in King Co. Funny. I NEVER use card to pay at restaurants, all CASH. This happened years ago after I paid for dinner and the place we ate at stamped another 15% fee for “services” which I contested. Lesson learned.
Now regardless from $10 to $200, I carry cash.

His system of what he tried to sell as protection, was nothing more than a surveillance and political “spying” and is a kin to the no fly and selectee list the liberal congress raised he(( about. It is IDing and offers the opportunity to conduct their own spying on innocent and law-abiding Americans violating their Constitutional right lacking just cause/good cause.
I give him credit for not being a complete idiot trying to enforce that one.

He blinked first. Government gathering information on the movement of citizens who have not been accused of crime is so heinous that even this d-bag had to back down.

I think it was the 2-page letter from the ACLU reminding Inslee that the constitutional protections afforded by both the Washington and U.S. Constitutions cannot be infringed - not even for a deadly virus. Specifically, they attacked his egregious edicts related to “contact tracing” and forced quarantines, both of which violate privacy and due process provisions. I’m not a fan of the ACLU, but there’s no question that they donate to Democrats and certainly Democrat Governors. If you are one of those, you don’t piss off a powerful donor with legally indefensible actions that could unintentionally trap other powerful Democrats being forced to quarantine or divulge the name, address, cell phone #, etc. of that fine-looking young blonde they just took to lunch.
