San Francisco is facing a $1.7 billion deficit over the next two and a half years without even considering emergency response spending on the coronavirus, the mayor's office announced Wednesday.

The deficit is the result of the pandemic and the emergency response spending will likely increase the deficit beyond $1.7 billion.

That amount could increase if residents continue to be exposed to the virus and a slow recovery from the pandemic begins after late 2020.

Expected emergency spending on the coronavirus for the current fiscal year is about $375 million. Portions of the city's expenses will be paid for by federal and state money, but both future costs and reimbursements are uncertain, the mayor's office said.

Too bad, that’s their problem. They can figure it out. Maybe start their own country.

I don’t think they can deficit spend. They can’t write hot checks, only FedGov can do that.

Somebody’s gonna lose their jobs.

Maybe a benefit concert, or a bailout by hollywood friends.

A benefit by Hollyweird is good. But by far, the the best solution is to raises taxes on productive citizens.

And who wants to bet moving the homeless out of the hotels is going to be met with accusations of cruel, inhumane treatment

Could they be any more transparent?

San Freakcisco could charge a sidewalk poop tax. Not on the poopers, of course, but on the homeowners and businesses with the befouled sidewalks. $100 per turd if you clean it up and $500 if you leave it there.

Raise Nanzi Pelosi’s property taxes by $750 million a year and the problem's solved. She may have to sell her two $25,000 freezers to pay the bill however, which would be tragic.

Now that they have cut off their noses to spite their face, they are complaining none of it is their fault.

How did any of them think they could in the same breath agree they needed to take on additional expenses and agree to shut off the revenue streams funding their operations, and get away with it?

Progressives have taught THEIR political class well - do not think, just do as “the experts” say you should, and don’t worry, all will be well.

They could raises taxes on cigarettes and liquor, except you can’t buy them in the city. But you can get them for free from the city if you are homeless.
