But vitamin D does really play an important role in regulating the immune system. See this article. According to this study vitamin D deficiency contributes to the development of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome which is one of the ways COVID-19 kills people. And there are recent COVID-19 studies which show that vitamin D deficient patients have a more severe illness: a Louisiana study, a University of Southeastern Philippines study, and an Indonesian study.
