I live in SoCal and have worked in aerospace since 1986. The engineering/software talent pool in California is impressive and an innovative company can take advantage of that in-spite of the costs. Just my observations.

Intolerable situations, like the one Tesla and Elon Musk were put into, require sometimes pretty drastic actions.
If you do not tend to the plantation, do not be surprised at the revolt of the denizens of that plantation.
Up to now, Elon Musk was a fairly reliable ally of the California Mafia. But they plucked the tailfeathers just a little too hard this time.
