In most states, you would still be considered armed, even if you had a knife, or a flame thrower or a crossbow.

If you threaten the bank teller with a gun, you would be booked for armed robbery

If you threaten the bank teller with a knife, you would still be booked for armed robbery

If you threaten the bank teller with a note that said you had a gun, but later found out you never even owned/possessed a gun, you are still booked for armed robbery

Yes, correct.

I have no objection to higher sentences for armed robbery.

It is higher sentences that single out firearms that I object to.
