2 million out of about 7 billion is still an insignificant number, understandably not to the people who lose a loved one, but still insignificant.
2.2 million dead was the initial upper estimate for deaths in the US alone in a do-nothing scenario. Even with the massive lockdowns and measures put in place around the country, we’re still looking at around 135,000 deaths per most estimates assuming things don’t take a turn for the worse (like Spanish flu did in the fall after the first wave). Looking area by area within the states, some places overreacted and some places didn’t react strongly enough. Obviously we need to find ways to have the economy moving, but we also have to consider that we’re dealing with a serious bug here.
I really hope the President and VP Pence are staying safe. Scary that this thing keeps getting literally within arm’s reach of both of them. We can’t afford to lose either of them.
