There’s no defined metric for when ‘emergency powers’ can be enacted. There’s no defined threshold of when that metric triggers it.
So it’s just an end-around the Constitution. What if the flu is bad next year? Is that bad enough? What if deaths on the road spike, will we have an emergency ‘do not drive’ declaration? What are the bookends? Nobody knows and that is my problem.
I don’t recognize dictated ‘orders’ as ‘law’. They’re not - we the people didn’t have representatives pass them. Governors have decided for themselves it’s ok to destroy small businesses. Everything they’ve risked and work for - gone because a governor says so.
Why would *anyone* start a new business? Will there be a resurgence of the virus? Probably to some degree. Will that put us back to square zero and ‘lock-down’? If that is still possible then forget new businesses for a long time.
Then there’s ‘the lists’ of what is allowed and what isn’t. Our Michigan governor says she is following the ‘science’. Bullsh*t. There’s NO science that says golfing is a risky activity. What about fishing on your boat (with a motor)? Again, NO peer reviewed papers. We can’t buy gardening products or paint either. So just keep us under house arrest with nothing to do. Surely gardening and painting our home will keep us busy and ‘distant’ from others. This is NOT science, it is just politically driven, power drunk, madness - all decided by ONE person.
IMHO the ONLY power a governor should have during a bad virus is to REQUEST that certain behavior be followed. No ‘orders’. No ‘lists’. One person having this much power, with no regard for the essential need of everyone to earn a living, is madness.
Your handle may be fuzzylogic; your logic is anything but. One of the best, most cogent posts I’ve read in quite a while.
Amen, brother. These power mad governors have zero legitimacy when they issue these “emergency “ orders.
They should be ignored.
