One unmistakable side effect of the media’s round-the-clock coronavirus coverage is scaring the hell out of people.
Several polls show that a majority of Americans believe the news business has hyped the threat from the virus, though that view has declined as the death toll in this country, now surpassing 69,000, has risen.
I’d prefer to believe that the fear factor is based on the cacophony produced by wall-to-wall virus news, rather than any effort to promote a pandemic that is already filled with grim statistics.

They could. Or they could go down. The NYT should make sure its articles are science based and not just part of a political agenda.
I spoke to a friend of mine yesterday. He said another friend of his, a 50 year old man, died last week in NJ. He had 95% clogged arteries, had a heart attack and died on the way to the hospital. His death was ruled, surprise, surprise, as COVID.
The first stop in CWII is the slimes.

I think there should be a senate investigation of agencies involved in how deaths are recorded throughout the US. There has been much said about padding the numbers in NYC. Even the funeral directors association there complained about inaccuracies and - and others, including doctors have made the same charge..

I knew from the beginning of this farce that a good portion of deaths were in convalescent homes. I also knew that the hysteria was more of a threat than the virus. I’m not belittling the severity of the virus but we’ve been playgued.
Hate media is doing it’s part of scaring the crap out of everyone who believes them. Which doesn’t include me.
Deaths COULD double. And a meteorite could take out the entire east coast.
The virus is real and unfortunately, quite a few of my fellow Americans will die from this before things are through.
But the news reports lack any sense of perspective or understanding of statistics.
The 1957 Flu Pandemic (of which there is never mention) killed about 100,000 Americans, at time when the US population was about half of what it is now (172 million).
The overwhelming number of lives taken by this virus were vulnerable individuals (elderly or already very sick). Each death is a tragedy, but we should focus on protecting a clearly identifiable group of individuals, rather than than locking down our entire population.
As a 55 year old male with mild diabetes, I have about a 1.2% chance of dying this year. From the best available statistics, I have about a 0.2% chance of dying if I contract the virus. Given the choice of having a slightly higher 1.4% chance of dying this year, and a 100% chance of destroying my two children’s economic future, I choose to take the mild risk and return to a normal life.
What did the NY Times say about not cleaning the subways until today? Talk about acting late.
At some point Trump HAS to start calling them out on the padding of COVID death counts.
What are the odds? What are the odds of any article on any subject to be fake news if the writer is the NYT’s? Anything with NYT or WaPo on it is just something I skip. I’ve never gotten anything but disinformation from them. You can almost get the “real” news by reading them ... read it, understand it, then figure out what is the opposing idea, and that will be the truth. The libs are actually getting kind of boring, no original thought, they take Trump’s thought, then state the opposite ... regardless.
There are some in this forum who mirror the breathless reporting of the Democrat/Left-controlled media of each new case and each new death with the clear intent of keeping America locked down and to hurt Trump as much as possible. The Democrats/Leftists are just behaving like the America haters they are ... I get that. What I don’t understand is why some in this forum are going along with this .... I intend to find out why.
