The government is using the coronavirus pandemic to transfer key public health duties from the NHS and other state bodies to the private sector without proper scrutiny, critics have warned.
Doctors, campaign groups, academics and MPs raised the concerns about a power grab after it emerged on Monday that Serco was in pole position to win a deal to supply 15,000 call-handlers for the governments tracking and tracing operation.

The “democratic” party here in the U.S. would like to block out that kind of news, since, they don’t want to give republicans and the people any ideas about doing the same here in the states.
Seems like we’re doing the opposite here.
Trump transferred covid testing to the commercial labs in March and that was another of his ‘game changers’-—like HCQ, China and Europe travel ban.
Frankly, all of Europe is so hidebound with their ‘free’ socialized medicine that it even takes a free market guy like Boris Johnson many extra weeks to finally be able to buck the establishment.
There’s nothing new in this. The NHS has been outsourcing and subcontracting ancillary services for decades.
