A vaccine is no better than a coin flip in terms of prevention
Does the virus kill, or is the virus acting like an accellerant, magnifying the impact of other exisiting maladies in frail people?

Yes, but most mutations are harmful and weaker and eventually causes the strain to die off.
I’m not saying that this Novel Coronavirus’ mutation is going to be like this, but that’s what most mutational observations seem to be.
