Like anything else this topic requires some basic cost-benefit analysis.

My eyes were opened on this topic by Rick Perry and Gardasil. The inescapable conclusion was that most of the required immunizations are on the list due to crony capitalism and not medical necessity.

It’s hard to argue that smallpox and polio vaccines weren’t a boon to mankind. When I was a kid there were six required. Today in some states the list is approaching 50.

And we need to consider the potential risks of overstimulating the immune system and creating autoimmune diseases.

Agreed. This just needs to be revisited by a sane congress. So, we need a sane Congress, and then they need their buts kicked to balancing liability (accountability) with availability. Also, the requirement for vaccination must be met with a high high standard of safety vs proposed benefit.

Getting these various vaccines off of the required list would help. Making them fight to get on the Required list with safety and quality data.. and a program to fund remediation for injuries. IF they are seeing an uptick of injuries then the increased cost will cause the offending vaccine be withdrawn.
