McConnell Shoots Down Trump’s Infrastructure Proposal: ‘Keep the White House in the Box’

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) told Republican Senators that he would not support President Trump’s proposal for an infrastructure overhaul as part of any further coronavirus economic relief, according to multiple reports.

“We need to keep the White House in the box,” McConnell told his caucus, according to Axios. ” . . . The Democrats and the White House both need to get the message.”

Trump has been vocal about using a phase-four coronavirus package to fund infrastructure reform. “With interest rates for the United States being at ZERO, this is the time to do our decades long awaited Infrastructure Bill,” he tweeted on March 31. “It should be VERY BIG & BOLD, Two Trillion Dollars, and be focused solely on jobs and rebuilding the once great infrastructure of our Country!”

I’m with Mitch on this....NO PHASE 4! It’s pretty rare for me to side with McConnell over Trump, but this is that rare occasion. The ‘RATS would merely ride any Phase 4 as an opportunity to fund their allies.

Nothing new here. Infrastructure was a big part of Trumps 2016 campaign message. Paul Ryan and Mitch made sure it didn’t happen. Mitch is still making sure

Meanwhile, Mitch opposes Trump getting our troops out of the Middle East. Mitch has no problem with unlimited spending - as long as it’s not in America.

We are on a suicidal spending spree, and both Nancy and Trump are pouring it on. Good for Mitch being a modest voice of sanity.

On the face of it I agree. Mitch seems right on this and I want no phase 4, open the country instead.

“ I’m with Mitch on this....NO PHASE 4! ”

Herbert Hoover also opposed big public works spending as a response to the onset of the depression. So Mitch has a Republican precedent for his opposition to Trumps proposal

I happened to hear a local Michigan report that some workers were so afraid because of the government reports, that they had several cases of “mutinies” at road crew sites. Jobs ready but workers mutinied.

One wise person said “When you see a group of guys standing near each other talking it means they are not actually doing their jobs. They’re goofing off. While working in construction you are seldom close to another worker. If you are, then wear a mask. If you’re standing close to several people it means you’re resting.”

Mitch has always opposed Trump on infrastructure. Mitch and Paul Ryan successfully blocked it

Mitch only wants to build roads and bridges in Afghanistan and Iraq. And cost is no object - as long as we’re not spending the money in America

If ALL labor is American firms, and people I agree. No refugees, or illegals. Try and bargain some of the cost down with tax incentives.

Biggest issue now is FOOD. Many places getting to late to plant, less will be planted to adjust for the slaughtering of meats, eggs, milk, and crops. Unless we want a Great Depression 2. I shopped for the first time Friday, shelves looked like they do when a Hurricane is due. Empty, nearly empty. Rationed Baby Formula, diapers, TP no one was buy the expensive crap what few there were. Frozen food isle slim pickings. Cleaning supplies slim none on sale and Price Gouging. Even the Dried beans, rice, pasta had little to offer. Prices were UP. No sales unless you count Wine, Toothpaste and Patio furniture.

We are on a suicidal spending spree, “

As Trump points out we’ve spent $8 trillion on Middle East wars and nationbuilding over the past 17 years. Mitch never objected. In fact, Mitch opposes Trumps efforts to bring our troops home. So many “conservatives” oppose big spendI guess - ONLY if the money is spent in America. But no problem if it’s spent in middle east

Wrong move Mitch.

McConnell is equating POTUS’s infrastructure bill with Pelosi’s push for a Green New Deal.

POTUS’s bill will CREATE JOBS.

Pelosi’s bill will LOSE JOBS.

Mitch needs a better advisor/writer on how to frame PR statements.

Democrats don’t care about the country otherwise they would have long ago teamed up with Trump to get a deal on infrastructure. I wish they weren’t so deranged about the Trump Presidency because then Trump wouldn’t have to be all in with the Repukes. Hate is a very poor motivator to make the country great.

“STOP ALL THE SPENDING, YOU JERK!“

Mitch voted against Trump’s plan to get US troops out of Syria. Mitch INSISTS that we keep spending billions there. And in Iraq and Afghanistan too.

Mitch isn’t against big spending. He’s against big spending to rebuild America’s infrastructure. Building stuff in the Middle East is fine, just not for Americans here at home.

“..Trump has been vocal about using a phase-four coronavirus package to fund infrastructure reform. ..”

I have supported POTUS on almost everything he has done and am an ardent cheerleader for him. However, I do not agree with a phase four plan. We have enough spent now and it needs to have a little time to work. Let it. Once the economy gets moving, perhaps late 2021, then take a look at the infrastructure problem. But stop spending money now!!
