Well don’t I stand totally corrected?
I love that song.
I had no idea it was so nasty in parts.
Thanks y’all for enlightening me.
Woody was flat out commie.
The history of Woody Guthrie is worth a read. It was the last time there was a serious effort to drag this country into Communism. Knowing what he was all about you’d likely never look at any of his music the same way again. You probably remember his protégé Pete Seeger who was still putting this stuff out there as recently as the ‘00s.

I do too. And I always knew about the commie verses. Fortunately those verses are rarely sung. So Ill just enjoy the happy wanderer part of the song, particularly when it s sung by a great singer like Judy Collins or Johnny Cash.
When I was growing up in Cali, it was taught in public schools, brainwashed in the 70’s. But I fondly remember this song. I don’t agree with the sentiment of Woody.
