TORONTO (AP) — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday that Canada is banning the use and trade of assault-style weapons immediately.
Trudeau cited numerous mass shootings in the country, including the killing of 22 people in Nova Scotia April 18 and 19. He announced the ban of over 1,500 models and variants of assault-style firearms, including the AR-15 and other weapons that have been used in a number of mass shootings in the United States

The gun used in the shooting was illegally obtained and illegally owned.
But hey - I’m sure another law banning them will stop all murders and further ar-15 gun crime

I read that the shooter had only a handgun until he murdered a cop and stole her service rifle.
Thank god this new law will prevent these kinds of tragedy in the future

Well sure. Criminals probably would use illegal weapons. But they wouldn’t dare have a weapon that was doubly illegal.
Does Canada’s Constitution give the Government the power to unilaterally do this?
I knew law abiding Canadians would pay the price for the actions of one criminal.
