I have argued for decades that the idea that economic engagement with the dictatorship in China would lead to political liberalization in China was a myth, a pretense, sold by “globalists” to an easily convinced and widely ignorant sheeple. It - political liberalization in the mainland - was never and will never happen as long as the dictatorship survives.
The economy under the dictators is not a true “free market” economy. It is a nationalist mercantilist economy run by a dictatorship which has an immense direct role in thousands of outwardly “free” enterprises. The current dictators display many fascist behaviors while still calling themselves “communists”.
