Fast forward to today when millions of private sector employees are out of work, impacting a much larger percentage of the country and and anyone who expresses any concern for the livelihoods of those out of work are being "selfish" and "putting people at risk".
The government workers (including congress) are not missing a paycheck despite not working. Most of the rest of us don't have that luxury. Where is the equivalent outrage by the media?
We can survive quite well as a nation with most of the government being shut down, but we most assuredly cannot survive with most of the private sector being shut down. It's time to get back to work. We are advanced enough to figure out a way to protect the vulnerable without driving our nation into a 2nd great depression.
