Kemp poised to lift restrictions, despite warnings of renewed outbreak

Gov. Brian Kemp appears poised to ease social restrictions that created disruptions for millions of Georgians amid a still-spreading global pandemic.

A month-old shelter-at-home order is set to expire just before midnight Thursday. But Kemp kept Georgians in the dark Wednesday about what comes next in the state’s fight against the coronavirus.

But by easing the restrictions, Kemp would be disregarding dire warnings from public health officials.

Easing restrictions now would cause the virus to strengthen and spread, said Rebecca Mitchell, an epidemiologist and visiting assistant professor at Emory University. Mitchell is running as a Democrat for a state legislative seat in Gwinnett County.

On the most recent day for which complete data is available, she said, more than 700 new coronavirus cases were confirmed statewide.

“We’re letting each one of these new cases go out and impact more people in the community,” Mitchell said in an online news conference staged by a group seeking to expand Medicaid benefits in Georgia. “It means they will be in contact with many more people.”

A favorite local restaurant posted "Dine-In Open" on its sign tonight. Our first restaurant dining in weeks felt very, very good.

They have to do distancing of some kind, but we were the first customers after they put up the sign!

Great to hear! Did they move the tables further apart? Were they wearing masks? About how many people were inside?

If a person tested positive then they are quarantined so what this person said is not true.

Go for it. If they have the beds and staff, and if they protect the vulnerable.

I’m glad Kemp took his actions...someone had to peek outside and risk enemy fire to find out how bad the enemy really is...else we’d end up like the bomb shelter family in the movie...had Brendan Fraser in it...

That’s what the dems and Chinese want, for us to cower inside, to crash the economy worse - it is like a campaign commercial for the enemy...

Georgia is trending down overall. There is a spike in Hall county (The Poultry Capital of the World) that is due to all of the illegal aliens who work in the factories.

There is a reason why Georgians call people who go to Emory University - Emmroids. She is just regular democrat P.I.T.A. (Pain in the A$$). Too bad I cannot vote against her. She is not in my district.

And meanwhile, they criticize every move trhe President makes w/o ever offering their own plans - they wouldn't have closed us down from other Nations when he did, but he "waited too long", they want to throw money at everyone and their step-brother, yet they don't want folks to go back to work, they have no plans or ideas on finding vaccines and/or treatments, but he ain't doing it fast enough...they condemn the mention of HCQ even though there's evidence it may have been one of the most effective early-on therapies available, they have no idea or plans for increasing testing capabilities (like AOC would prate, Just do it") while he's engineered the biggest manufacturing of the tests, at the fastest rate, that the world has ever seen....despite starting at ground zero.

After all, they have good reason to believe this...Trump's fault...

If anyone ever came ip[ with a cure for TDS, the Dems might never win another election for anything.
