Wegmans raised their price on every item I looked at...all products that I regularly buy.

Yep, our local Spartan store egg prices have been all over the place...long before “the crisis”. Dozen eggs go from .69 to 4.00 like a yo-yo.

Yup. If there is more than one source of supply, I do not believe in the concept of “gouging.” If ya don’t like the price, move on.

According to these lawyers you should still be paying $3.50 a gallon for gasoline. Fairness don’t ya know.

A year ago, we were buying eggs for 23 cents per dozen at Aldi’s. Now? 97 cents. Bastards.

WalMart is paying suppliers higher prices for eggs. They can solve the price gouging issue by losing money or just not carrying eggs at all. Stupid suit.

Chains have dropped all discounts on items in many cases. Used to be roughly 20% of total items had some cents off tags nationally. And “we are offering a reduced special brochure at this time” by the handouts in front.

This was by design. During the late 1970's the federal government engaged in price controls on food and gasoline. After President Reagan came into office and got the economy out of the malaise produced by Jimmy Carter, the price controls were lifted.

We noticed that prices became elevated, but groceries and manufacturers started to produce copious coupons. My father had been in the grocery business during the 1950's. (He was the smartest person I have ever known, personally.) His assessment was that the people in the food chain were protecting themselves against future attempts at price controls. Rather than raising prices, which would be illegal, the merchants would simply quit providing coupons and leave the prices at original list.

There was a scarcity of eggs when this immediately broke at our Kroger affiliated store, only kroger brand. It has since changed that there are more varietys but not in the same quantities. Prices are about on par with pre virus.

You can control prices or you can control supply. You cannot control both.

I am 100% in favor of allowing so called “price gouging”. Toilet paper should have been allowed to sky rocket until people got the message to buy only what they needed.

Eggs have been artificially cheap for years. Now the entire logistics chain is wrecked and prices should go up.

Is anyone crying to raise gasoline prices? If you believe prices should be capped the you should also believe in a floor.

Get ready the same group of Freepers who led the Corona hysteria will now lead the charge for price controls.

It will be amazing. All the people who collect checks from the government, who are glad government has all of us are locked down, will now insist that the government shouldn’t allow their prices for goods to increase. I can hear it now, “we are on fixed income our prices shouldn’t go up”,

I have noticed rising egg and dairy prices too. I think some of it could be attributed to supply and demand. There was a big run on all the “staples” at the beginning. Now it is gradually restocking to full supply.

Meat has gone up, especially beef, about 25%, in my opinion. This has been especially true of ground beef, which those on fixed, low incomes, buys because they cannot afford steaks and expensive roasts. I think that this is because of a closing of a few packing plants. The shock from this has probably not been fully felt yet. What's interesting is that pork and chicken has risen very little where I live. You can still be packs of mixed pork chops for just a little over $2.00 a pound. Don't know if that is going to hold.

Yes, I assume that there has been some taking advantage of this crisis to make a little extra profit. But prices have not risen so much yet (like 200 to 300%) to cause people to not be able to afford it.

I hope that the politicians stay out of it. The law of supply and demand will bring things back into equilibrium if we allow it. Heck, we all complain about prices! I would love for them to just give it to me!! But seriously, we are very fortunate in this country. There are no bread lines and the grocery supply chain did not collapse, even when there was a huge run on the groceries. And the shelves are full again! You can even get toilet paper lol.

“Because they don’t want to feed them any longer”

BS. If you knew anything at all about farming and ranching you’d know what a childishly ignorant statement that is.

Funny, I’ve buying eggs at Aldi, Acme and ShopRite (Delaware) at bargain prices. Maybe CA is getting charged higher prices as a cost of doing business.

First time I have heard that. That explains a lot. Thanks.

on your father: He was the smartest person I have ever known, personally.

He was lucky to have earned the respect and admiration of his son. If I had been blessed with children I would be thankful for that. It’s nice of you to honor him.

How do they know that the suppliers haven’t raised their prices and the stores are selling at the exact same markup they always do?

Oh, it doesn't matter...

The complaint stops just short of accusing every single retailer and farm of price-gouging. Rather, the lawsuit alleges that “at a minimum, some of these defendants did so.”

If this is certified, time to take to the lamp posts.
