I am curious. Why do they report only the number of infections. The real data should be number of hospitalizations.

Many people infected don’t even realize it.

It just goes to show that you can’t believe anything. Trials are run by parties that get the results they want.

Hydroxychloroquine is not impressive in hospitalized patients. we need something that works in those that are ill.

Define “ill”? If ones has a cough and tests positive for China Virus is he “ill”? If he is given HCQ+ BEFORE he needs hospitalization and recovers wouldn’t the HCQ be considered successful in treating the virus?

This is what has happened in literally THOUSANDS of cases reported by Drs around the world.

It would be wonderful to have something effective for those needing hospitalization but as of now we don’t. But that doesn’t make the HCQ any less effective than it has shown itself to be.

Ill is on high flow oxygen or a ventilator. Most of not all of the rest will recover with no intervention. I have no experience with the outpatient treatment but am awaiting to see the trials. We need options for seriously ill people and there are several on the horizon

Here is how. It seems the Corona viruses and fill viruses have their own genes for replication. RNA directed RNA Polymerase.

the point t if attack is the reverse transcriptase which is unique to rna viruses

That would make it a Retrovirus like HIV. I don’t think it has that.

Yes it is. It’s an rna virus like HIV and ebola

I didn’t see it in here. More than you ever wanted to know. There is an RNA dependent RNA Polymerase, no Reverse Transcriptase.

Ebola is a Filovirus which, apparently, has an RNA Dependent RNA Pol as well. IIRC HIV just has a Retrovirus and uses the cells Ribosomes for genome replication. IIRC most viruses use the host “machinery” for viral replication. That way they can be more compact and more stable.

interesting. It appears there is a replicase/transcriptase complex that forms. I would think this would be a potential area of attack

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_replication#Transcription_/_mRNA_production

RdR Pol appears to be unique to minus sense single strand RNA viruses. Positive sense SS RNA virus can use the host Ribosomes.

Here’s an article I found the other day. Note how the viral particles are in the endothelial cells but not enough in the blood to capture one virion inside the lumen. Viral endothelium dying exposes IMHO the basement membrane forming the Indus for micr clotting that seems to characterize the disease.

Also note the size of the virus. Most viruses you have to see the vacuoles in the nucleoli because the viral particles are so small. IIRC. These are the size of cell nuclei. They say the virus has a 30 kB genome which i guess is pretty large. All the virus I remember seeing on Neuropath the particles were so small you had ot look for the nucleoli Inclusions.

So far I have only been able ot find one study that shows CT and/or MRI of the brain. A 50 year old lady and the brain in that study is wrecked. Bilateral Thalamic necrotic lesions and bilateral mesial Temproal Lobe lesions. I would love to see more and see if that is typical. I read the children that had been sick and got strokes had large vessels “ACA and MCA” occlusions with clot. That isn’t “micro emboli”. That is mm range emboli. Micro emboli would be smaller than an RBC, less than 7 microns.

Here we go a new patent and a high priced drug. Hydroxychloroquine and zinc do the job cheaper.

Eventually the market will figure this out based on results.

Funny. If you search the stacks at MMWR for “Coronavirus” it is mentioned TWO TIMES prior to 2003. Once in 1982 and once in 2000. That’s it. Then in 2003 the “Hong Kong” outbreak started the publications flowing.

Curiously about the time “Gain of Function” started.

Thanks for pointing this out. So if viruses were birds, the coronavirus would be an ostrich among hummingbirds. Not sure if this has any therapeutic implications, but curious nonetheless.
