China is badly bungling its diplomatic response to its responsibility for unleashing COVID 19 on the world, and the consequences for its ambition to become the world’s hegemon will be profound. As you may have seen, when Australia announced it would investigate the origins of the Coronavirus pandemic, China threatened a boycott. The leftist Guardian summarizes the contretemps:
Australia has been described as “gum stuck to the bottom of China’s shoe,” by a Chinese state media editor as Beijing criticised calls for an inquiry into the coronavirus origin as “political manoeuvring,” further straining ties.
Australia has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of Beijing as it calls for an investigation into the origins and spread of the virus, which emerged in China late last year and has now killed more than 200,000 people around the world.
Late on Monday, Hu Xijin, the editor of the state-run Global Times wrote on Weibo that ties between Australia and its largest trading partner, China, were likely to deteriorate as much as relations between Beijing and Washington had.
Criticising Australia for joining the US in its attacks on China, Hu wrote: “After the epidemic, we need to have more risk awareness when doing business with Australia and also when we send our children to study there.”
“Australia is always there, making trouble. It is a bit like chewing gum stuck on the sole of China’s shoes. Sometimes you have to find a stone to rub it off,” Hu said.

China is something else on the bottom of our shoe here in the United States.
Maybe normal Americans will think "Why should I buy anything Chinese"
Total Embargo against Chinese goods into this country not by law just by choice and buying habits - i can dream
A total boycott would be difficult.
It’s hard to name a product not made in China...
So, I remember 30 years ago,, Wal Mart stated that they would carry American made products whenever possible.
They lied and damn near everything at on of these is made in China.
It is currently impossible to NOT buy from China, but that is and will continue changing. We have started de-China-ing our lives. We will have to bring everything back to the US.
The virus may not have been released on purpose, but IMO the fact they locked down Wuhan but let (forced?) infected people to fly all over the world to spread the infection was an act of war and should be treated by the rest of the world as such!
F^^K China!!!!
The CIA did it.
Never mind “follow the money”. Instead -
WHO BENEFITS!
There is also a PUBLIC and an ORIGINAL European Union Covid-19 report. The original was very critical of China/CCP but then the backlash from China/CCP reduced the public report to pablum. Authoritarians are quick to use threats, bribery and blackmail against their critics!
China really knows how to make friends and influence people. Screw them, and their college students studying (committing espionage) abroad in both Australia and the US. If China is such a great place, why do they send their kids out of country to get higher education?
Let me finish your sentence. It's hard to name a product not made in China...that couldn't be made here in the US. There, that's better. Getter done.
Here's how I picture China on the sole of Trump's shoe.
I shopped for a dehumidifier at Wal Mart many months ago. Four brands with American names were on the shelves.
All made in China...
Let’s see....Australia, America, Japan, the UK....even the EU to a lesser extent. They’ve managed to piss off just about everybody.
