Whats been hardest is the way our legal system is structured to favor private property. I think people all over this city, of every background, would like to have the city government be able to determine which building goes where, how high it will be, who gets to live in it, what the rent will be. I think theres a socialistic impulse, which I hear every day, in every kind of community, that they would like things to be planned in accordance to their needs. And I would, too.Wow. The mayor wants to invent zoning. What will come next?
The issue, of course, is that the mayor is not speaking honestly. What he really wants is for the city to be able to seize control of buildings already zoned, permitted and constructed under the city's byzantine laws and regulations, and unilaterally repurpose them based on his immediate political needs. The "law" is the whim of the sovereign. Citizens have no rights against government. The scrap of paper from the city can be torn up by the city at any moment.

It sounds like everybody in New York City wants to rip off everybody else and call it “socialism”.
Of course we know how it always ends—some pigs are more equal than others.
