His attacks, most recently against excellent reporters like Jonathan Karl (ABC), Yamiche Alcindor (PBS), Peter Alexander (NBC) and Paula Reid (CBS), put the bully in bully pulpit, but they haven't shaken the soul of the First Amendment.
Trump's daily briefings, which sometimes include pertinent and significant information, have also frequently become a sideshow, filled with false and misleading statements, compulsive boasting and self-promotional videos. That's why with each live briefing, many news outlets, including ours, are aggressively fact-checking in real time, assessing the value to viewers minute to minute and cutting away when warranted.
Despite these challenges, what has become powerfully clear during this pandemic is that the heart of journalism has never been stronger. As ever, journalists are asking tough questions and going where the facts lead. Not looking to win any popularity contests - just doing what Woodward and Bernstein inspired my generation and the generations that followed to always do: seek the best obtainable version of the truth.
At this dark hour, people are scared. They're being bombarded daily by noise and information, not all of it correct - some of it intentionally divisive and polarizing. They're hungry for accurate information and the straight, unvarnished truth. Now, and in all the days to come, journalists will be there.

President Trump ran for office being totally vilified by a biased press. Once he took the oath of office, the media in this country ran negative story after negative story, questioning his each and every motive, calling him a traitor, ran unsubstantiated claims he worked for Vladimir Putin, urged prostitutes to urinate on a bed, described him eagerly watching gorillas on television, and offered morale support to Neo-Nazis.
It didn't just end there.
You in the media actively coordinated with democrat politicians and former Obama administration officials to encourage the making of lies and smears that led to impeachment.
Every story was based on anonymous claims and statements that were NEVER proven true nor did the accusers get questioned as to their motives or agenda, or if, in fact, they existed at all.
When those stories proved false, and even a special prosecutor could find no wrong doing on the part of the President, rather than apologize for the trouble you put the nation through, you switched gears and immediately made up a false narrative about a phone call the President made (and luckily documented) to the Ukrainian leader.
Statistics show your fellow journalists have had over 90% of their stories about President Trump in the negative. Unprecedented in our history.
If these people are “journalists,” then we need to start referring to DNC spokesmen as “journalists” too to be fair.
