New Delhi: Indian vaccine major Serum Institute of India said on Sunday that it plans to start production of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University in the next two to three weeks.
If human clinical trials of the vacine are successful, the product should be available in the market New Delhi: Indian vaccine major Serum Institute of India said on Sunday that it plans to start production of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University in the next two to three weeks.
If human clinical trials of the vacine are successful, the product should be available in the market by October.
However, human clinical trials are a big if. They will take place in the UK.
The Pune-based company has partnered with Oxford University as one of the seven global institutions manufacturing the vaccine.
"Our team has been working closely with Dr Hill from Oxford University, and we are expecting to initiate production of the vaccine in 2-3 weeks and produce 5 million doses per month for the first six months, following which we hope to scale up production to 10 million doses per month," Serum Institute India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawalla said.
SII has collaborated with scientists at Oxford University for a malaria vaccine project in the past and can say with certainty that they are some of the best scientists, he added.
"We expect the (COVID-19) vaccine to be out in the market by September-October, only if the trials are successful with the requisite safety and assured efficacy. We will be starting trials in India for this vaccine hopefully over the next 2-3 weeks' time," Poonawalla said.

Vaccine is not needed
Interesting claim.
Why would you claim this?

Coronavirus Throws A Curveball: New Mutation Can Make Current Vaccine Research ‘Futile’:
Study
As scientists are racing to develop a cure for COVID-19, a new study has confirmed a significant novel coronavirus mutation that may render current vaccine developments “futile.”
God bless India :)
Or it may not.
Read the article you posted.
This was discussed at length a while ago on FR (the article is from April 15). It seemed to me it was pretty much discounted.

Better to patent the vaccine, then not enforce it. That keeps patent trolls away.
I believe the first actual results from an actual test of the use of the LONG-TERM malarial treatment Hydroxychloroquine, though without the one category of Zinc, which appears to have been once again, overlooked, may be released this week.
The study is of 1,600 patients. A significant sampling. Apparently 1/4 got Hydroxychloroquine. 1/4 got Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin. 1/4 I believe received another treatment. And finally 1/4 received a usual treatment. At least that is my understanding.
Apparently there are however, NO patients receiving Zinc. Possibly being a deal-breaker, since that is apparently part of the recommended treatment.
That said, this seems to be a real study, it is now done, they are apparently compiling the results, and may be publishing the results, this friday possibly.
However, there are concerns, that the lack of Zinc might be an issue, with this study.
We should hear fairly soon, anyway.
Indian-made three week vaccine.
It will prevent Covid-19 but you will crave curry for the rest of your life!
Study of 1600 patients at what stage of the disease? Hopefully at an early stage to see if it prevents advancement to serious or critical stage.
Beware gift horses. Or in this case, gift chimpanzee-based vaccines of Fauci’s preferred type that can have other stuff easily stuffed in.
No thanks.
They should still patent it, and if they choose give open rights.

There’s one in every crowd! lol
I’m waiting until Mexico makes a chili-based vaccine. :)
