Workers at a Smithfield Foods pork plant in Milan, Missouri, say that for years they have endured repetitive stress injuries on the meat processing line and urinary tract infections because they had so few bathroom breaks.
But as the coronavirus pandemic has emerged, workers say they have encountered another health complication: reluctance to cover their mouths while coughing or to clean their faces after sneezing because this can cause them to miss a piece of meat as it goes by, creating a risk of disciplinary action.
The claims appear in a complaint filed Thursday in federal court by an anonymous Smithfield worker and the Rural Community Workers Alliance, a local advocacy group whose leadership council includes several other Smithfield workers.
The complaint also seeks to test a novel legal question: whether health hazards at the plant present a public nuisance.
Coronavirus infections have emerged as a significant problem at meatpacking plants around the country, with some closing and many others operating well below capacity. At least 10 workers in meatpacking and three workers in food processing have died of COVID-19, leaders of the United Food and Commercial Workers union said Thursday. About 6,500 employees either have contracted the virus, missed work because they had to self-quarantine or are waiting for tests or show symptoms, they said.

Enjoy your full body bubble protection.
I like the Adolf solution for Zhang Fei land. Problem is generating the massive amounts of Zyklon B needed. Just to clear out the bats, you understand ...Just shove them in your mouth and chew.
That was a different time when they didn’t think standard regulations would work. If the USA had stayed hard headed through the depression we would’ve fallen most likely. Things improved with at least some regulation.
Easy solution...go back home. Infect your own family, take as long as you need in bathroom.
Life us all about choices. Perhaps the low-skill and minimum wage was just aiming too high for your potential. Find one of those “shovel-ready” jobs that the Kenyan-in-Chief liked to promote so much.
Besides, there is no reason you should be contaminating food just because you couldn’t handle anything above GED-level work.
Lol yes.
Because the two options are nothing and “full body bubble protection”?

I see lots of stupid people doing stupid stuff. Even the doctors. Note however that sneezing is not a symptom of CV-19. I have chronic sinus problems including sneezing. TMI- but in the store on my weekly shopping trip yesterday I was dripping down my nose for the last half-hour. But my mask covered it - so who cares! (Yuck!)
Could robots be designed to do that job?
If people dont see the beginnings of China style (and actually funded) mass starvation pogrom here in the U.S., they arent paying attention.

Wait...they want the legal right to cough on the meat?
Yeah...even “not rocket science” seems beyond some people’s thinking. I’m somewhat shocked those sorts of workers aren’t already wearing masks.
Then you are OK.
Avoiding tight confined spaces with poor ventilation and lots of people. Facial protection, good hygiene.
It osnt fool proof, but it’s like wearing a seatbet. It’s a sight better than nothing.
