Sedalia knife shop owner Hal Van Herke on Tuesday posted a Declaration of Business Independence on Facebook saying he would reopen CastleGate Knife and Tool Tuesday in defiance of Governor Polis stay-at-home order.
Van Herkes declaration says in part:
WHEREAS: Small businesses have carried the burden of this effort more heavily than special interests, large corporations and major banks who once again received preferential treatment and largess from the Federal Government at the further cost of small business tax payers, and
WHEREAS: Non-essential Government, Academic, and Corporate staff continue to remain unconscionably fully paid at the same time that Small Business, the Self Employed and the Unemployed suffer, and
WHEREAS: Our attempts at petition and righteous redress, to Our Government has fallen on uncaring ears, and in some cases has been actively suppressed, and
WHEREAS: We refuse to become second-class citizens, beholden to the entitled class for our safety, freedom, and wellbeing, and
WHEREAS: We have the ability to operate our business in such a manner as to reduce and mitigate the risk to our Community, Customers, and Staff, and to adjust operations in a responsible and balanced manner commensurate with local conditions.
What were going to be doing is have our staff wearing masks. Were going to ask our customers to wear masks. If they dont have a mask were going to have masks available they can purchase at a reasonable price. Were also asking them to use hand sanitizer before they enter the store and then when they leave, said Van Herke. We feel along with controlling the number of people in the store and social distancing that should provide an adequate guard against transmission of the virus.

Bringing a knife to the fight.
Where is he located?
He swears none of the knives were loaded.
No Gun Free Zone signs were violated.
He’s ok in my book.
Sedalia
Can’t wait for axe-throwing night at the DewDrop Inn.
Not a big knife type but I would do an online purchase to be supportive.
Any business that stands up should be towards the front of the line for being supported.
I thought all non-essential retail businesses in CO were allowed to open with social distancing etc restrictions on May 1
I’ve always felt the “take a number” system was best.
Boy, the smell of rebellion sure is in the air here in Southern California. Some of the beaches are open; some of them require masks. I just cannot imagine anyone will be wearing a mask. I am going tomorrow just for a beach-in, in preparation for next week’s Honk-In. We the People and all that. Enough, already!!
I have read that hand sanitizers dont actually do anything in regards to this virus or viruses.
Anyone who goes to the knife shop and then comes down with the Chinese Virus should be denied ANY AND ALL healthcare.*

Sharp guy - he’s making some cutting remarks.
All of my reading basically says that 62% alcohol is the minimum to have any effectiveness. They do help some, but not nearly to the extent that a proper hand washing does. i.e. they are better than nothing but it is still prudent to keep your hands away from your face. Which is a good habit to develop anyway. You will get fewer colds.
“I have read that hand sanitizers dont actually do anything in regards to this virus or viruses.”
The one thing they DO for sure do, is dry the hell out of your hands.
Thanks. I pay a visit.
Can always use a good pocketknife.
Across town from me. I might pay him a visit.
BIG display of hand sanitizer at my local grocery store this evening...did we buy any? NO.
Don’t bring a knife to a SWAT team fight.
