I think he wants to get re-elected and he knows his position will not turn his base away”
How does he know that?
By publicly dumping on Kemp’s decision, Trump may have made other governors more reluctant to open their economies any time soon, because they don’t know what Trump will say for or against them in public.
If the effect is to slow the economic reopening, Trump’s reelection chances go down.
Economic depressions are not good for incumbents.
I have been a Trump supporter since the elevator day - and argued with Cruzbots for months until they finally came around. I desperately want him reelected - but that’s one reason I’m so angry about him throwing Kemp under the bus. It looks weak, it looks disloyal, and it hurts the prospects of us getting out of this mess sooner rather than sometime after Biden is inaugurated.
Excellent points all.

One might as well say that a Jew in a concentration camp decided they liked Hitler. It’s absurd on the face of it.
I agree, he is listening too much to his so called health experts and is being sucked into mission creep, fighting the rate of infection instead of the original goal, to prepare our hospital system for the worst case spike, which never came. Now, they projecting doom and gloom in the future to prevent business from expanding and hiring people!
I was a big time, big donor, Cruzer and nothing you or any FReeper said converted me or most Cruzers.
Cruz converted 80% of us, on his own, when he shat on Trump over the Chicago rally.
And now, I am 1000% Trump and he is playing this hand exceptionally well.
He is riding the rails, and as for weak, that is on you.
I don’t know — won’t most liberals now have exploding heads, while they temper their “we want economy to fail” with “whatever Trump is against, we are for”?
