They once were supposed to keep peace at the Egyptian/Israeli border. That was from 1956 until 1967, when at the first sign of trouble they buggered out and said “good luck”.
Well, the only “peacekeeper” that actually works is one that all the other bad hombres are afraid to mess with, and the UN doesn’t fit that bill.
