"In the United Kingdom, total excess deaths are now causing real alarm among statisticians. The 18,516 deaths recorded in England and Wales in the week to April 10 are the highest weekly total since winter 2000 and we are not in winter now. There 7996 (or 76%) more deaths than the mean weekly death toll for the time of year."
We have over 68,000 fewer deaths than expected since Feb 1. Most of that is due to the economic shutdown and hospitals stopping surgery. Surgery and other treatment is necessary, but it results in roughly 20,000 deaths a month immediately that would otherwise die later without the treatment.
This is a pretty big deal. In the average year, the flu accounts for 2% of all deaths. If the excess deaths are entirely due to the coronavirus, that means it’s at least 50x more lethal than the flu. Within that period, the new bug has killed more people than the entire roster of people killed by cancer, heart attacks, strokes, traffic accidents, suicide, et al, *combined*.
Likely to be offset by a lower death rate later on. CV19 is probably compressing deaths of people already on their last legs. Once that population has been consumed, CV19 won’t have many left to terminate as it’s not particularly deadly to the population as a whole.
[We have the exact opposite situation in the US https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/COVID19/

If you are British, you are expendable. And don’t you dare criticize Islam, mate.
While the death information might be delayed in some cases it is not delayed by much.
good point, well expressed
“The 18,516 deaths recorded in England and Wales in the week to April 10 are the highest weekly total since winter 2000 and we are not in winter now”.
18,516 deaths in a week? False. England has that many TOTAL deaths.
Very poorly written story and worth the trash can.
Monckton has gone full in on this one. He has written a series of articles where he has been using the entire array of tactics (chery picking data, intentionally misleading charts and graphs, etc...) from “climate change alarmists” to hype this thing to death. I guess even “Lord Monckton” wants to be loved by our leftist media. I will never take anything he says seriously again... he is like the English version of the National Review.
Just a few weeks ago, there was a report about how total deaths had dropped in Italy and Spain, but now there are excess deaths?
i think ***excess deaths*** is one of a few legitimate statistics, among many illegitimate ones. this needs to be explained. i hope someone there can break the uk cause of death numbers down in detail.
their death (18,100) numbers look in line with italy, spain and france, though their testing looks low (theepochtimes). wonder what italy, france and spain’s excess death rate is?
I guess you are not keeping up with the latest research based on antibody tests that have been coming out one after the other, that are showing conclusively that it is much more prevalent than assumed but no more lethal than the typical flu. So take your breathless hysteria and get back to watching CNN and MSNBC... they miss you.

I have family members who are waiting over a month for a death certificate, so that delays any other benefits they could possibly get, Penny said. On top of losing your loved one, now you are concerned with health insurance.]
Probably adding the Muslim killings into the results.

“*Data during this period are incomplete because of the lag in time between when the death occurred and when the death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS and processed for reporting purposes. This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more, depending on the jurisdiction, age, and cause of death.”
From your link
“as its not particularly deadly to the population as a whole.”
OMG what nonsense. I don’t “particularly” want to spend 2 weeks in the hospital, even if I don’t die. I don’t like hospital food, intense pain, that sort of thing.
