Maybe the release of the letter (which happened two days ago now...
see above) was a different/secondary response to Schiff's letter) from April 7
so the public has a little bit more of the backstory to the brewing "feud".

One thing is certain, the intensity of interaction between Schiff and Grenell has been ratcheted up.

Maybe Grenell knew some little snake in the grass would run straight to Schiff with the info that the letter was found.
Maybe when the little snake in the grass told Schiff that Grenell found the letter Schiff thought he could make the first play and force Grenell down by putting sideways pressure on Grenell.
Maybe Grenell (and Solomon?) was giving Schiff some line so the hook sets firmly later on. (see - trout fishing)
