U.S. TV Average Ad Spending To Sink 25% In The First 6 Months Of 2020: eMarketer

New estimates forecast that U.S. TV advertising spending will decline sharply -- between 22.3% and 29.3% -- for the first half of 2020, according to eMarketer, mostly due to the lack of sports TV programming.

For the first six months of the year, the research company estimates a roughly 25% drop in average total TV advertising -- broadcast, cable, syndication, and local -- to between $23.95 billion and $26.30 billion, from January through June.

These declines are due to the disruption caused by COVID-19.

Previous estimates from eMarketer, released on March 6, forecast a 2% increase for the full 2020 year to $72 billion.

For the full 2019 year, total TV advertising was down 2.5% to $70.6 billion. In the first half of 2019, national TV pulled in $33.86 billion.

In addition, all major sports franchises -- NBA, NCAA, NHL, and Major League Baseball -- have suspended their respective TV seasons, and the Tokyo Summer Olympics has been shifted to the summer 2021.

NBCUniversal, the TV network group that will be airing the games, had pulled in $1.25 billion in national TV advertising spending before the suspension of the event.

Political advertisers are still expected to spend big on TV, says eMarketer, “but probably not in second quarter.”

Although it was anticipated that political ad growth would come from presidential campaigns and other election-related ads, “the election season itself and the apparent insensitivity of campaigning during the pandemic, [means] that spend is largely on hold.”

They aren’t paying for sports or production. When do the layoffs begin?

The other night one of the ESPNs was showing a WNBA regular season game from 2016. For the three seconds I was on the channel, the rating went up by 100%.

Imagine what TV is going to look like in October. It will be a desert.

TV ads are abysmal anyway. Much interaction of liberal indoctrination within the subliminal messages.

Well, there is that $1.2 Billion that Bloomberg spent on his campaign, most of it in media ad buys.

To say nothing of the rabid promotion of interracial marriage in virtually every TV ad campaign.

It seems 70% of the ads on TV lately are glorified PSAs telling us to “Wash Your Hands”, “Keep Your Distance” and, my favorite, “We’ll all get through these Difficult Times Together”.

Suddenly, I find those cloying “please give $19 a month” ads on MeTV, H&I and GSN a lot less annoying! Yeah, I watch those stations a lot, good old time shows and some fun game shows. If you avoid the nightly “Steve Harvey from the Hood” marathons!

The anti-male bias is obvious in many ads.

Yesterday, I saw an ad yesterday where a black family moved into a house and looked displeased to see a photo on the wall of white people. They painted over the portrait. The ad was for a paint company. It is sheer stupidity but it is the mindset of liberals to teach intolerance.

Celebs get paid an enormous salary. Shows like “The Big Bang Theory”, paid three actors $1 million an episode, later “reduced’ to just $900,000 so their co-stars could make $350,000

The owners of the shows make much more. The reruns are sold for hundreds of millions. They need no tax rebates or a bailout.

The TV commercial scene is completely out of hand.
Used to be 10 min of show, 3 min of commercials.

Seems now it’s 5 min of commercials, 3 min of show. And the evening news? 30 sec of news 3 -5 min of commercials.

The news is about the only thing we watch ‘live’.
Everything else we DVR and breeze through the offending crap.
And the commercials content ! Just ultra left wing.
