Markus Soeder, the governor of Bavaria, along with Dieter Reiter, the mayor of Munich, announced on Tuesday that the regions annual Oktoberfest festivities would be canceled due to the health risks posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Difficult decision with Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter, Soeder wrote on social media, per a translated tweet. The Oktoberfest 2020 must be canceled. The risk is just too high. You can neither keep your distance there nor wear a face mask. Living with [coronavirus] means living cautiously until there is a vaccine or medication.
The festivities, which were scheduled to begin on Sept. 19 and run through Oct. 4, would have been the 187th celebration of the beer-themed event.

Risk of what? This isn’t the Black plague.
I’m sure a fair bit of it is having to put money down on the front end now, not knowing if you’d get any return. In other years it was just a given. This year, not so much.
Look honey, everybody is out of step but our Johnny.
The Muslim population likely will hold their own celebration in mock.
Doesnt figure. For the first time in 30 years I was gonna go.

It seems odd that this event is five months away, and they already decided to cancel.
Are they just expecting the world will still be on lockdowns and restrictions then?

My own personal $.02 is that when a country has too much prosperity for too long a period of time, its people become soft. If generations go by without anyone experiencing any significant degree of hardship, they become not only soft, but also lazy, shallow, apathetic, and cowardly. They want complete and instantaneous victory, without any personal cost or risk to themselves.
The ancient Romans are a case in point. From a valiant Republic, to the gilded Imperial era with its bread and circuses, to the sacking of rome by the various barbarian hordes. By that time, the Romans had lost all memory of how to fight, and all will to re-learn it.
Seriously though, the two world wars really reduced the testosterone stock in Germany.
alot of it has to do with the fact that the primary brewers start brewing their inventory for this event in April.
by cancelling it now, the main brewers wont have to overproduce.
that gal is painfully gorgeous.
It used to be on my bucket list too.. A ‘Hajj’ to LagerLand... right below running a marathon with Sasquatch.
