JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Thermometers in many stores have been selling off shelves faster than they can be replenished amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
A pharmacist at a Jacksonville Walgreens said theyve sold out of thermometers. Its unclear when the next shipment was coming in for that store.
News4Jax was able to obtain one thermometer on Friday after searching throughout the day. It was at a CVS Pharmacy at the corner of University Boulevard and St. Augustine Road. The store is only permitted to sell one at a time from a crate.
Dr. William Nimo, the owner of Omni Care Pharmacy in Miramar, said his store sold its last thermometer a week ago. He said he orders his thermometers from Cardinal Health, a major medical supply company.
They are out, Nimo said. Completely out.
Nimo said hes not surprised at the number of people who have been buying thermometers, as a fever is a common symptom of the virus.
Temperature is the first screening tool, so I encourage my patients to buy them," Nimo said.
According to medical experts, people who have tested positive for coronavirus or have been in contact with someone who tested positive and are still in quarantine should be checking their temperature twice a day. Medial experts also say that people who have essential jobs that have to leave home during the statewide stay-at-home order should also be checking their temperature at least twice a day.
If you dont have a thermometer and cant find a store that has them in stock, you can always order online, however, many of the less-expensive ones are sold out. After checking Friday, some thermometers on Amazon had a delivery date between late May and the middle of June.
I am thinking of buying one...I am checking out AMAZON...
Would you recommend any particular thermometer?
Toilet paper, disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, zinc, thermometers...boy, I should have put my investments in those!
I may have a thermometer. I wouldn’t know where to look for it though.
Yeah it’s probably where Burr put his money.
Tussin cough syrup too, at least in our neck of the woods, along with bottled water.
Fear can cause all sorts of “symptoms” ... physical as well as mental. Since a fever is one of the early signs of Chinese Flu infection, taking your temperature each day or when you’re feeling anxious may help you calm down ... and that would be a good thing.
A great place for thermometers made in Communist China. Some may say "from US stock," but you still might get one with a production date as recent as February of this year. Oh, and it might actually be somewhat accurate or not accurate.
BTDT.
What about Apple watches and Fitbit? Don’t these keep track of temp?
The Pink ones for Ovulation will work and they are easier to find.
Duck!!!
I got mine in the kitchen wares department of my local Meijer store. It's digital and you can even use it to check if your pork is ready to eat.
Duck!!!
The other day I was looking at bandannas on Amazon and one popular item “shipped from China”.
I took my temperature last Wednesday when I felt really tired and it was 99.6. By the next day, it was back to normal.....I thought that was weird.
When I came back from the UK March 18, I was given a CDC form at the airport to fill out, with instructions to take temperature twice a day. While I was away, the TP, thermometer, etc. panic had started. The only thermometer left at Walmart was a glass one - all the other spaces on the shelf for other thermometers were empty. Not convinced this glass one worked, but I never had a temp!
Yeah, not sure I want a flying thermometer.
don’t forget rubbing alcohol. I had bought two bottles back in January when nobody had a clue what might happen...then I worried about my daughter decided to pick up yet another bottle ...just in case...so glad I did. At the time not a single bottle on the end of row display had been touched..LOL Don’t think we will see that product in about 5 years.
Battery in mine is dead, I hope. I need to buy one and see.
I do have working electronic meat thermometers I could use in a pinch, being careful not to stab myself.
Companies like Wal-Mart are modifying their camera systems to use infrared detection. You will see this all over the place soon. If the camera system indicates someone is running a fever then they go to the relocation camp.....
